• The electronic key is too close to the win-

dow or outside door handle, near the

ground, or in a high place when the doors

are locked or unlocked.

• The electronic key is on the instrument

panel, luggage cover or floor, or in the

door pockets when the EV system is

started or power switch modes are

changed.

●

Do not leave the electronic key on top of

the instrument panel or near the door

pockets when exiting the vehicle.

Depending on the radio wave reception

conditions, it may be detected by the

antenna outside the cabin and the door

will become lockable from the outside,

possibly trapping the electronic key

inside the vehicle.

●

As long as the electronic key is within the

effective range, the doors may be locked

or unlocked by anyone. However, only

the doors detecting the electronic key

can be used to unlock the vehicle.

●

Even if the electronic key is not inside the

vehicle, it may be possible to start the EV

system if the electronic key is near the

window.

●

The doors may unlock if a large amount

of water splashes on the door handle,

such as in the rain or in a car wash when

the electronic key is within the effective

range. (The door will automatically be

locked after approximately 30 seconds if

the doors are not opened and closed.)

●

If the wireless remote control is used to

lock the doors when the electronic key is

near the vehicle, there is a possibility that

the door may not be unlocked by the

entry function. (Use the wireless remote

control to unlock the doors.)

●

Touching the door lock sensor while

wearing gloves may delay or prevent lock

operation. Remove the gloves and touch

the lock sensor again.

●

If the door handle becomes wet while the

electronic key is within the effective

range, the door may lock and unlock

repeatedly. In that case, follow the follow-

ing correction procedures to wash the

vehicle:

• Place the electronic key in a location 2 m

(6 ft.) or more away from the vehicle.

(Take care to ensure that the key is not

stolen.)

• Set the electronic key to battery-saving

mode to disable the smart entry & start

system.

●

If the electronic key is inside the vehicle

and a door handle becomes wet during a

car wash, a message may be shown on

the multi-information display and a

buzzer will sound outside the vehicle. To

turn off the alarm, lock all the doors.

●

The lock sensor may not work properly if

it comes into contact with ice, snow, mud.

Clean the lock sensor and attempt to

operate it again.

●

A sudden approach to the effective

range or door handle may prevent the

doors from being unlocked. In this case,

return the door handle to the original

position and check that the doors unlock

before pulling the door handle again.

●

If there is another electronic key in the

detection area, it may take slightly longer

to unlock the doors after the door handle

is gripped.

■

When the vehicle is not driven for

extended periods

●

To prevent theft of the vehicle, do not

leave the electronic key within 2 m (6 ft.)

of the vehicle.

●

The smart entry & start system can be

deactivated in advance.

●

Setting the electronic key to battery-sav-

ing mode helps to reduce key battery

depletion.

■

To operate the system properly

Make sure to carry the electronic key when

operating the system. Do not get the elec-

tronic key too close to the vehicle when

operating the system from the outside of the

vehicle.
Depending on the position and holding

condition of the electronic key, the key may

not be detected correctly and the system

may not operate properly. (The alarm may

go off accidentally, or the door lock preven-

Door lock buzzer

If an attempt to lock the doors is made when

a door is not fully closed, a buzzer sounds

continuously for 5 seconds. Fully close the

door to stop the buzzer, and lock the vehi-

cle once more.

Open door warning buzzer

If the vehicle speed reaches 5 km/h (3

mph), a buzzer sounds to indicate that

driving.

Make sure that all of the doors are

closed and locked.

●

Do not press an inside door opener

switch while driving.

Be especially careful with the driver’s

door, as it can be opened even when the

doors are locked.

When a child is riding in a rear seat, set

the child protector locks to prevent the

rear doors from being opened from

inside the vehicle.

Precautions for when opening or

closing a door

When closing a door, swing it closed with

slight force applied to it. If you press on

the door by hand to close it, it may not be

closed completely.

When opening or closing a door, check

the surrounding area and hold the door

handle tightly.

Passenger

and rear seat reminder

function

: On some models

As the first reminder so as not to forget lug-

gage, etc. in the front passenger seat or a

rear seat, when the power switch is turned

off after any of the following conditions are

met, a buzzer will sound and a message will

be displayed on the multi-information dis-

play for approximately 6 seconds.
Also, as the second reminder, when the

doors are locked, a buzzer will sound and

the emergency flashers will flash for a few

seconds, and a message will be displayed

on the multi-information display

●

Rear seat reminder function: The EV sys-

tem is started within approximately 10

minutes after opening and closing a rear

door.

Front passenger seat and rear seat

reminder function: The EV system is

started within approximately 15 minutes

after opening and closing a rear door or

the front passenger’s door.

●

A rear door or the front passenger’s door

has been opened and closed after the EV

system was started.

The second reminder will not be activated if

a rear door or the front passenger door was

opened before the doors are locked.
When this function is disabled by following

the message displayed on the meters, the

passenger and rear seat reminder will be

off.
This function will be re-enabled when the

EV system is turned on.
However, if a front passenger door and rear

door is opened and then closed within

approximately 2 seconds, the passenger

and rear seat reminder reminder function

may not operate.
The passenger and rear seat reminder func-

tion determines that luggage, etc. has been

placed in the front passenger seat or a rear

seat based on opening and closing of the

front passenger door or a rear door. There-

fore, depending on the situation, the pas-

senger and rear seat reminder function may

not operate and you may still forget lug-

gage, etc. in the front passenger seat or a

rear seat, or it may operate unnecessarily.

When the doors are locked:
While carrying an electronic key, press

Make sure to securely press the door

operation by pressing the door opener

switch, or it can be opened using the door

opener switch as a manual release handle

Impact detection door lock release sys-

tem

If the vehicle is involved in a severe frontal

or rear collision, manual release handle

operation will be enabled for all of the

Security feature

If a door is not opened within approximately

30 seconds after the vehicle is unlocked,

the security feature automatically locks the

vehicle again.

The driver should always carry an elec-
tronic key (or the card key) on their
person, for example in their pocket.

Grip the door handle to unlock the

Make sure to touch the sensor on the back

of the handle.
The doors cannot be unlocked for 3 sec-

control.

changing the settings.

When the indicator light on the key sur-
face is not on, press and hold

Any of the tires loses air pressure.

The vehicle is jacked up.

An earthquake occurs or the road caves

Cargo is loaded onto or unloaded from

Your vehicle is designed primarily as a
passenger carrying vehicle. Towing a
trailer will have an adverse effect on
handling, performance, braking, dura-
bility, and electricity consumption. Your
safety and satisfaction depend on the
proper use of correct equipment and
cautious driving habits. For your safety
and the safety of others, do not over-
load the vehicle or trailer.
To tow a trailer safely, use extreme care
and drive the vehicle in accordance
with the trailer’s characteristics and
operating conditions.
Lexus warranties do not apply to dam-
age or malfunction caused by towing a
trailer for commercial purposes.
Ask your local authorized Lexus
retailer or Lexus authorized repairer,
or any reliable repairer for further
details before towing, as there are
additional legal requirements in some
countries.

Check the allowable towing capacity,
GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass), MPAC
(Maximum Permissible Axle Capac-
ity), and permissible drawbar load
before towing.

NOTICE

●

Do not spray air fresheners or other

products directly into the sensor holes.

●

Installing accessories other than genu-

ine Lexus parts or leaving objects

between the driver’s seat and front

passenger’s seat may reduce the

detection performance.

Genuine Lexus Towing devices or
Bicycle holder brackets if available.
Other products of a suitable nature
and comparable quality may also be
used.
For vehicles where the towing device
ball or the bicycle holder attachment
ball, when installed, partially obstructs
the visibility of any of the rear lamps
and/or license plate, the following shall
be considered:



Do not use towing devices that have
a tow ball that cannot be easily
removed or repositioned.



Do not use Bicycle holder brackets
that have an attachment ball that
cannot be easily removed or reposi-
tioned.

All detachable towing devices balls or
Bicycle holder attachment balls should
be removed or repositioned when not
in use.

Please consult at any authorized Lexus
retailer or Lexus authorized repairer,
or any reliable repairer when installing
trailer lights, as incorrect installation
may cause damage to the vehicle's
lights. Please take care to comply with
your state's laws when installing trailer
lights.

drawbar load

Total trailer weight

Weight of the trailer itself plus the trailer
load should be within the maximum towing
capacity. Exceeding this weight is danger-
ous.
When towing a trailer, use a friction cou-
pler or friction stabilizer (sway control
device).

Permissible drawbar load

Allocate the trailer load so that the
drawbar load is greater than 25 kg (55.1
lb.) or 4% of the towing capacity. Do not let
the drawbar load exceed the indicated
weight

Gross vehicle mass

The combined weight of the driver, passen-
gers, luggage, towing hitch, total curb mass
and drawbar load should not exceed the
gross vehicle mass. Exceeding this weight
is dangerous.

Maximum permissible rear axle
capacity

The weight borne by the rear axle should
not exceed the maximum permissible axle
capacity by 15% or more. Exceeding this
weight is dangerous.
The values for towing capacity were
derived from testing conducted at sea
level. Take note that EV system output and
towing capacity will be reduced at high alti-
tudes.



Type B

Gross vehicle mass

The combined weight of the driver, passen-
gers, luggage, towing hitch, total curb mass
and drawbar load should not exceed the
gross vehicle mass. Exceeding this weight
is dangerous.

Maximum permissible rear axle
capacity

WARNING

If the maximum allowable axle capacity is

exceeded, observe the following:

●

Add an additional 20.0 kPa (0.2
kgf/cm

or bar, 3 psi) to the recom-

mended tire inflation pressure value.

●

Do not exceed the established speed

limit for towing a trailer in built-up

areas or 100 km/h (62 mph), which-

ever is lower.

Trailer lights

●

Check that the turn signal lights and stop

lights are operating correctly every time

you hitch up the trailer. Directly wiring up

to your vehicle may damage the electri-

cal system and stop the lights from func-

tioning correctly.

●

Please consult any authorized Lexus

retailer or Lexus authorized repairer, or

any reliable repairer when installing

trailer lights, as incorrect installation may

cause damage to the vehicle’s lights.

Please take care to comply with your

state’s laws when installing trailer lights.

■

Break-in schedule

Lexus recommends that vehicles fitted with

new power train components should not be

used for towing trailers for the first 800 km

(500 miles).

■

Safety checks before towing

●

Check that the maximum load limit for

the towing hitch/bracket hitch ball is not

exceeded. Bear in mind that the coupling

weight of the trailer will add to the load

exerted on the vehicle. Also make sure

that the total load exerted on the vehicle

is within the range of the weight limits.

●

Ensure that the trailer load is secure.

●

Supplementary outside rear view mirrors

should be added to the vehicle if the traf-

fic behind cannot be clearly seen with

standard mirrors. Adjust the extending

arms of these mirrors on both sides of the

vehicle so that they always provide maxi-

mum visibility of the road behind.

■

Maintenance

●

Maintenance must be performed more

frequently when using the vehicle for

towing due to the greater weight burden

placed on the vehicle compared to nor-

mal driving.

●

Retighten all bolts securing the hitching

ball and bracket after towing for approxi-

mately 1000 km (600 miles).

Your vehicle will handle differently
when towing a trailer. In order to avoid
accident, death or serious injury, keep
the following in mind when towing:

■

Checking connections between
trailer and lights

Stop the vehicle and check the opera-
tion of the connection between the
trailer and lights after driving for a brief
period as well as before starting off.

■

Practicing driving with a coupled
trailer



Get the feel for turning, stopping
and reversing with the trailer cou-
pled by practicing in an area with no
or light traffic.

NOTICE

■

When the rear bumper strengthening

material is aluminum

Ensure the steel bracket part does not

come directly in contact with that area.

When steel and aluminum come into

contact, there is a reaction similar to cor-

rosion, which will weaken the section

concerned and may result in damage.

Apply a rust inhibitor to parts that will

come in contact when attaching a steel

bracket.

When reversing with a coupled
trailer, hold the section of the steer-
ing wheel nearest to you and rotate
clockwise to turn the trailer left or
counterclockwise to turn it right.
Always rotate a little at a time to pre-

Increasing vehicle-to-vehicle dis-
tance

At a speed of 10 km/h (6 mph), the dis-
tance to the vehicle running ahead of
you should be equivalent to or greater
than the combined length of your vehi-
cle and trailer. Avoid sudden braking
that may cause skidding. Otherwise,
the vehicle may spin out of control. This
is especially true when driving on wet
or slippery road surfaces.

■

Sudden acceleration/steering
input/cornering

Executing sharp turns when towing
may result in the trailer colliding with
your vehicle. Decelerate well in
advance when approaching turns and
take them slowly and carefully to avoid
sudden braking.

■

Important points regarding turning

The wheels of the trailer will travel
closer to the inside of the curve than
the wheels of the vehicle. To make
allowance for this, take the turns wider
than you would normally do.

■

Important points regarding stabil-
ity

Vehicle movement resulting from une-

ven road surfaces and strong cross-
winds will affect handling. The vehicle
may also be rocked by passing buses
or large trucks. Frequently check
behind when moving alongside such
vehicles. As soon as such vehicle
movement occurs, immediately start to
decelerate smoothly by slowly apply-
ing the brakes. Always steer the vehicle
straight ahead while braking.

■

Passing other vehicles

Consider the total combined length of
your vehicle and trailer and ensure that
the vehicle-to-vehicle distance is suffi-
cient before executing lane changes.

■

If the EV system overheats

Towing a loaded trailer up a long, steep
incline in temperatures exceeding
30°C (85°F) may result in the EV sys-
tem overheating. If the EV system cool-
ant temperature gauge indicates that
the EV system is overheating, turn the
air conditioning off immediately, leave
the road and stop the vehicle in a safe
place.

When parking the vehicle

Always place wheel chocks under the
wheels of both the vehicle and trailer.
Set the parking brake and shift the shift
position to P.

for the passengers.

Do not let a child operate the power

When using a roof luggage carrier

Observe the following precautions:

Place the cargo so that its weight is dis-

tributed evenly between the front and

rear axles.

If loading long or wide cargo, never

exceed the vehicle overall length or

width.

●

Before driving, make sure the cargo is

securely fastened on the roof luggage

carrier.

Loading cargo on the roof luggage

carrier will make the center of gravity

of the vehicle higher.

Avoid high speeds, sudden starts, sharp

turns, sudden braking, or abrupt maneu-

vers. The vehicle may not be able to be

controlled correctly and may rollover.

If driving for a long distance, on rough

roads, or at high speeds, stop the vehi-

cle now and then during the trip to

make sure the cargo remains in its

place.

●

Do not exceed 75 kg (165.3 lb.) cargo

weight on the roof luggage carrier.

hit nearby objects while driving or lug-

gage may be unexpectedly thrown out,

ble to death or serious injury.

When children are in the vehicle

Observe the following precautions.

Do not allow children to play in the lug-

gage compartment.

If a child is accidentally locked in the lug-

gage compartment, they could have heat

exhaustion or other injuries.

Do not allow a child to open or close

the power back door.

door to move unexpectedly, or cause the

child’s hands, arms, head, or neck to be

caught by the closing power back door.

Operating the back door

Observe the following precautions.

Remove any heavy loads, such as snow

and ice, from the back door before

opening it. Failure to do so may cause

the back door to suddenly shut again

after it is opened.

When opening or closing the back

door, thoroughly check to make sure

the surrounding area is safe.

If anyone is in the vicinity, make sure

they are safe and let them know that

the back door is about to open or

close.

Use caution when opening or closing

the back door in windy weather as it

may move abruptly in strong wind.

Vehicles without a power back door:

The back door may suddenly shut if it is

not opened fully. It is more difficult to

open or close the back door on an

incline than on a level surface, so

beware of the back door unexpectedly

opening or closing by itself. Make sure

that the back door is fully open and

secure before using the luggage com-

partment.

●

Vehicles with a power back door: The

back door may suddenly shut if it is not

opened fully while on a steep incline.

Make sure that the back door is

secured before using the luggage

compartment.

●

When closing the back door, take

extra care to prevent your fingers, etc.,

from being caught.

●

When closing the back door, make

sure to press it lightly on its outer sur-

face. If the back door handle is used to

fully close the back door, it may result

in hands or arms being caught.

closer as it still operates when the

power back door system is disabled.

Observe the following precautions.

Check the safety of the surrounding

area to make sure there are no obsta-

cles or anything that could cause any

of your belongings to get caught.

●

If anyone is in the vicinity, make sure

they are safe and let them know that

the power back door is about to open

or close.

If the power back door system is disa-

bled while the power back door is

operating, the power back door will

stop operating. The power back door

must then be operated manually. Take

extra care in this situation, as the

power back door may open or close

suddenly.

If the operating conditions of the

power back door are no longer met, a

buzzer may sound and the power back

door may stop opening or closing. The

power back door must then be oper-

ated manually. Take extra care on an

incline in this situation, as the power

back door may move suddenly.

On an incline, the power back door

may suddenly shut after it opens. Make

sure the power back door is fully open

and secure.

●

In the following situations, the power

back door may detect an abnormality

and automatic operation may be

stopped. In this case, the power back

door must then be operated manually.

Take extra care in this situation, as the

stopped power back door may sud-

denly open or close, causing an acci-

dent.

• When the power back door contacts

an obstacle

• When the 12-volt battery voltage sud-

denly drops, such as when the power

switch is turned to ON or the EV sys-

tem is started during automatic opera-

tion
