Driving

smartphone is stopped, assistance can be

suspended and the vehicle can be stopped.
When the operation of the screen of the

smartphone is resumed to move the vehi-

cle, the vehicle will be locked automatically

before moving.

When the parking space is
reached, after the vehicle is
stopped by the parking brake, the
shift position will be shifted to P, the
power switch will be turned off, and
the doors will be locked.

A completion screen will be displayed on

the smartphone.

The parking function can be used even if

obstructions exist if

●

When using the parking functions at a

parking space made of white lines, even if

an obstruction exists in the parking

space, the space can be set as the target

parking space. This allows for assistance

to continue after setting a parking space

from inside the vehicle and then exiting

the vehicle to move an obstruction, such

as a traffic cone placed in a handicapped

parking space.

●

When perpendicular parking using

Advanced Park, 3 parking spaces on

each side of the vehicle (up to 6 total) can

be detected. However, when using

Remote control function, only 1 parking

space on each side of the vehicle can be

detected.

When the brakes have been operated



into a garage, etc., by using the forward
and backward movement function.

Changing the direction of travel

While assistance is being performed, the

direction of travel of the vehicle can be

changed by the forward and reverse move-

ment function.

When there is a wall behind the vehicle,

etc., by operating the direction of travel

changing button on the screen of the

smartphone, the vehicle can be slightly

moved forward to allow loading of items

and then moved back to its original position.

When the brakes have been operated



Assistance can be provided to exit
from a perpendicular or parallel park-
ing space when the power switch OFF.
When forward and backward move-
ment is selected, the maximum dis-
tance the vehicle can move is 7 m
(23.0 ft.) from the starting point and
possible to change the direction of
travel.

While near the parked vehicle,
unlock the doors using the elec-
tronic key, and then start the

Remote Park app on the
smartphone.

If the smartphone cannot connect to the

vehicle, using the electronic key, unlock the

doors again.

Select the start button on the
screen of the smartphone.

The power switch will change to ON.

Check that a possible exit direction
is displayed, select the exit direc-
tion.

ation area on the screen of the
smartphone.

While continuously tracing the operation

area, the vehicle will move and departure

assistance will be performed.
If operation of the screen of the

smartphone is stopped, assistance can be

suspended and the vehicle can be stopped.
While assistance is being performed, it can

be stopped part way or the direction of

travel of the vehicle can be changed.

Move the vehicle to the position
where assistance ends and enter
the vehicle while carrying the elec-
tronic key.

To stop assistance part way, stop operating

the smartphone or enter the vehicle.

depressing the brake pedal.

get parking space can be detected

parking space which was previously
registered to the memory function.
Also, depending on the condition of

by assistance control.

Preparation before using

Make sure to perform the following
before using Remote control function:

Download the Remote Park app
from the app store.

Turn the power switch to ON and
register the smartphone as a
Bluetooth device to the multimedia
system.

For details on registering a Bluetooth

device, refer to the “MULTIMEDIA

OWNER’S MANUAL”.

Setup the Remote Park app and
register the vehicle.

The registered vehicle will be dis-
played on the screen of the
smartphone. Select the vehicle.

The name and image of the vehicle can be

changed on the new vehicle registration

screen.
Vehicles can be added through the menu

the vehicle and all of the doors are

closed.

Vehicles with a power easy access sys-
tem: After entering the vehicle and end-
ing Remote control function operation,
the seat return function will operate
when the driver’s seat seat belt is fas-
tened or the brake pedal is depressed.

The position at which perpendicular

adjusted. (Except when using the

The position at which perpendicular

parking (reverse) is completed can be
adjusted. (Except when using the

Rear accessory setting

If an accessory, such as a trailer hitch,
has been installed to the rear of the
vehicle, the length of the rear of the
vehicle can be adjusted to help avoid
colliding with objects to the rear of the
vehicle.

Clear registered parking space

The parking spaces registered to the
memory function can be deleted. Park-
ing space information cannot be
deleted when assistance is being per-
formed or when registering parking
space information to the memory func-
tion.

between your vehicle and vehicles parked

in front of and behind your vehicle being

short, the existence of an object in the exit

direction, etc.
Check the conditions of the area around

your vehicle and exit from the parking

space manually.

If “Cannot control speed” is displayed

The system judged that it cannot adjust the

speed of the vehicle when using the system

in an area with a slope or step and assis-

tance was canceled.
Use the system in a level location.

If “Obstacle detected” is displayed

As a moving object or stationary object that

may collide with your vehicle has been

detected, the hybrid system output con-

trol/braking control operates to suspend

of the air conditioning system (heat-
ing/cooling).
When the Eco drive mode is selected, Eco
drive mode indicator comes on.

Sport mode

Vehicles without Adaptive Variable Sus-

pension System: Controls the hybrid sys-
tem to provide quick, powerful
acceleration. This mode also changes the
steering feel, making it suitable for when
agile driving response is desired, such as
when driving on roads with many curves.
Vehicles with Adaptive Variable Suspen-
sion System: Helps to ensure steering per-
formance and driving stability by
simultaneously controlling the steering and
suspension in addition to the hybrid sys-
tem. Suitable for sportier driving.
When the Sport mode is selected, “Sport”
indicator will comes on.

Custom mode

Allows you to drive with the power train,
steering, suspensions

and air condition-

ing system functions set to your preferred

Trail Mode is designed to control
the spinning of the drive wheels by
integratedly controlling 4WD,
brake and drive force control sys-
tems. Use the Trail Mode when
driving bumpy roads, etc.

If the tires are spinning, the slip indica-
tor flashes to indicate that the Trail
Mode is controlling the spinning of the
tires.

Trail Mode

●

Trail Mode controls the vehicle so that it

can use the maximum amount of drive

force when driving on rough roads. As a

result, fuel efficiency may diminish when

compared to driving with Trail Mode off.

●

If Trail Mode is continuously used for a

long period of time, depending on the

driving conditions, the load on related

parts increases and the system may not

function correctly. In this case, “Traction

Control Turned OFF” will be shown on

the multi-information display but the vehi-

cle can be driven normally. The “Traction

Control Turned OFF” on the multi-infor-

mation display will turn off after a short

while and the system will operate prop-

erly.

■

When Trail Mode is canceled

In the following situations, Trail Mode is

automatically canceled even if it is selected:

●

When the driving mode is changed.

Sounds and vibrations when driving in

Trail Mode

Any of the following conditions may occur

when Trail Mode is operating. None of

these indicates that a malfunction has

occurred:

Vibrations may be felt throughout the

vehicle or steering

●

Sounds may be heard from the engine

compartment

■

When the Trail Mode indicator does not

illuminate

When the Trail Mode indicator does not

illuminate even though the Trail Mode

switch is pressed, the system may be mal-

functioning. Have the vehicle inspected by

any authorized Lexus retailer or Lexus

authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer

immediately.

When the Trail Mode is operat-
ing

WARNING

Before using Trail Mode

Make sure to observe the following pre-

cautions. Failure to observe these pre-

cautions may result in an unexpected

accident.

Trail mode is intended for use when

driving on rough roads.

●

Check that the Trail Mode indicator is

illuminated before driving.

●

Trail Mode is not intended to expand

the limits of the vehicle. Thoroughly

check the road conditions and drive

with caution.

NOTICE

■

In order to ensure that Trail Mode

operates properly

Do not continuously use the Trail Mode

for a long period of time. Depending on

the driving conditions, the load on

related parts increases and the system

may not operate properly.

The message may be displayed while

high load driving with particulate matter

accumulating.

●

Hybrid system output (engine speed) is

restricted when a certain amount of par-

ticulate matter accumulates, however, it is

possible to drive the vehicle unless the

malfunction indicator lamp comes on.

●

Particulate matter can accumulate more

quickly if the vehicle is frequently driven

short trips or at low speeds, or if the

hybrid system is regularly started in an

extremely cold environment. Excessive

accumulation of particulate matter can

be prevented by periodically driving long

distances continuously with intermittent

releasing of the accelerator pedal, such

as when driving on highways and free-

ways.

■

If the malfunction indicator lamp comes

on or “Engine Maintenance Required

Visit Your Dealer” is shown on the

multi-information display

The amount of accumulated particulate

matter has exceeded a certain level. Have

the vehicle inspected by any authorized

Lexus retailer or Lexus authorized repairer,

or any reliable repairer immediately.

GPF (Gasoline Particulate
Filter) system

The GPF system collects particu-
late matter in the exhaust gas by
using an exhaust gas filter. The sys-
tem will operate to regenerate the
filter automatically, depending on
the vehicle conditions.

generates braking force correspond-

Helps to maintain drive power and pre-
vent the drive wheels from spinning
when starting the vehicle or accelerat-
ing on slippery roads

Active Cornering Assist (ACA)

Helps to prevent the vehicle from drift-
ing to the outer side by performing
inner wheel brake control when
attempting to accelerate while turning

Hill-start assist control

Helps to reduce the backward move-
ment of the vehicle when starting on an
uphill

DRS (Dynamic Rear Steering) (RX

Contributes to maneuverability at low
speeds, responsiveness at medium
speeds and stability at high speeds by
controlling the steering angle of the
rear wheels in accordance with the

Control systems off, press and hold the

switch for more than 3 seconds while

the vehicle is stopped.
The VSC OFF indicator light will come on

be shown on the multi-information display.

Press the

switch again to turn the sys-

tem back on.

: On vehicles with PCS (Pre-Collision

System), PCS will also be disabled (only
Pre-Collision warning is available). The
PCS warning light will come on and a

Turning path when DRS operates

Turning radius of the vehicle is reduced by

steering the rear wheels in the opposite

direction from the front wheels at low

speeds. At this time, the rear wheels pass

outside in case of moving forward or inside

in case of reversing than the vehicle without

the DRS system. Therefore, take care also

to observe the rear of the vehicle when

moving forward or the side of the vehicle

when reversing in narrow spaces such as

parking lots.

A sound may be heard from the engine

compartment when the brake pedal is

depressed repeatedly, when the hybrid

system is started or just after the vehicle

begins to move. This sound does not indi-

cate that a malfunction has occurred in

any of these systems.

Any of the following conditions may

occur when the above systems are oper-

ating. None of these indicates that a mal-

function has occurred.

• Vibrations may be felt through the vehicle

body and steering.

• A motor sound may be heard also after

the vehicle comes to a stop.

■

ECB operating sound

ECB operating sound may be heard in the

following cases, but it does not indicate that

a malfunction has occurred.

Operating sound heard from the engine

compartment when the brake pedal is

operated.

●

Motor sound of the brake system heard

from the front part of the vehicle when

the driver’s door is opened.

●

Operating sound heard from the engine

compartment when one or two minutes

passed after the stop of the hybrid sys-

Active Cornering Assist operation

sounds and vibrations

When the Active Cornering Assist is oper-

ated, operation sounds and vibrations may

be generated from the brake system, but

this is not a malfunction.

EPS operation sound

When the steering wheel is operated, a

motor sound (whirring sound) may be

heard. This does not indicate a malfunction.

■

Reduced effectiveness of the EPS sys-

tem

The effectiveness of the EPS system is

reduced to prevent the system from over-

heating when there is frequent steering

input over an extended period of time. The

steering wheel may feel heavy as a result.

Should this occur, refrain from excessive

steering input or stop the vehicle and turn

the hybrid system off. The EPS system

should return to normal within 10 minutes.

AWD system has been temporarily

released and switched to front-wheel drive

due to overheating. Stop the vehicle in a
safe place with the hybrid system running.

power may be lost.

Active Cornering Assist does not

operate effectively when

Do not overly rely on Active Corner-

ing Assist. Active Cornering Assist

may not operate effectively when

accelerating down slopes or driving on

slippery road surfaces.

When Active Cornering Assist fre-

quently operates, Active Cornering

Assist may temporarily stop operating

to ensure proper operation of the

brakes, TRC and VSC.

Hill-start assist control does not oper-

ate effectively when

●

Do not overly rely on hill-start assist

control. Hill-start assist control may

not operate effectively on steep

inclines and roads covered with ice.

●

Unlike the parking brake, hill-start

assist control is not intended to hold

the vehicle stationary for an extended

period of time. Do not attempt to use

hill-start assist control to hold the vehi-

cle on an incline, as doing so may lead

to an accident.

When the TRC/ABS/VSC/Trailer

Sway Control is activated

The slip indicator light flashes. Always

drive carefully. Reckless driving may

cause an accident. Exercise particular

care when the indicator light flashes.

When the TRC/VSC/Trailer Sway

Control systems are turned off

●

Be especially careful and drive at a

speed appropriate to the road condi-

tions. As these are the systems to help

ensure vehicle stability and driving

force, do not turn the

TRC/VSC/Trailer Sway Control sys-

tems off unless necessary.

●

Trailer Sway Control is part of the VSC

system and will not operate if VSC is

turned off or experiences a malfunc-

tion.

Replacing tires

Make sure that all tires are of the speci-

fied size, brand, tread pattern and total

load capacity. In addition, make sure that

the tires are inflated to the recom-

mended tire inflation pressure level.

The ABS, TRC, Trailer Sway Control and

VSC systems will not function correctly if

different tires are installed on the vehicle.

Contact any authorized Lexus retailer or

Lexus authorized repairer, or any reliable

repairer for further information when

replacing tires or wheels.

Handling of tires and the suspension

Using tires with any kind of problem or

modifying the suspension will affect the

driving assist systems, and may cause a

system to malfunction.

■

Trailer Sway Control precaution

The Trailer Sway Control system is not

able to reduce trailer sway in all situa-

tions. Depending on many factors such

as the conditions of the vehicle, trailer,

road surface and driving environment,

the Trailer Sway Control system may not

be effective. Refer to your trailer owner’s

manual for information on how to tow

your trailer properly.

If trailer sway occurs

Observe the following precautions.

Failing to do so may cause death or seri-

ous injury.

●

Firmly grip the steering wheel. Steer

straight ahead. Do not try to control

trailer sway by turning the steering

wheel.

●

Begin releasing the accelerator pedal

immediately but very gradually to

reduce speed.

Do not increase speed. Do not apply

vehicle brakes.

If you make no extreme correction with

the steering or brakes, your vehicle and

trailer should stabilize.

Secondary Collision Brake

Do not rely solely upon the Secondary

Collision Brake. This system is designed

to help reduce the possibility of further

damage due to a secondary collision,

however, that effect changes according

to various conditions. Overly relying on

the system may result in death or serious

Avoid repeated acceleration.

amount of electrical energy can be

excessive gasoline consumption.
In summer: When the ambient temper-
ature is high, use the recirculated air
mode. Doing so will help to reduce the
burden on the air conditioning system
and reduce fuel consumption as well.
In winter: Because the gasoline engine
will not automatically cut out until it and
the interior of the vehicle are warm, it
will consume fuel. Also, fuel consump-
tion can be improved by avoiding over-
use of the heater.

Make sure to check the tire inflation
pressure frequently. Improper tire infla-
tion pressure can cause poor fuel
economy.
Also, as snow tires can cause large
amounts of friction, their use on dry
roads can lead to poor fuel economy.
Use tires that are appropriate for the

season.

Carrying heavy luggage will lead to
poor fuel economy. Avoid carrying
unnecessary luggage. Installing a large
roof rack will also cause poor fuel

Since the gasoline engine starts up and

Turn automatic mode of the parking
brake off. Otherwise, the parking
brake may freeze and not be able to

Park the vehicle and shift the shift
position to P without setting the
parking brake. The parking brake
may freeze up, preventing it from
being released. If the vehicle is
parked without setting the parking
brake, make sure to block the

Failure to do so may be dangerous
because it may cause the vehicle to move
unexpectedly, possibly leading to an acci-

cle design feature causes this type
of vehicle to be more likely to
rollover. And, utility vehicles have a
significantly higher rollover rate
than other types of vehicles.

An advantage of the higher ground
clearance is a better view of the
road allowing you to anticipate
problems.

It is not designed for cornering at
the same speeds as ordinary pas-
senger cars any more than
low-slung sports cars are designed
to perform satisfactorily under

battery (traction battery), hybrid system

Water entering the engine compart-

ment may cause severe damage to the

hybrid system. Water entering the inte-

rior may cause the hybrid battery

(traction battery) stowed under the

rear seats to short circuit.

Water entering the transmission and

rear electric motor (traction motor)

will cause deterioration in transmission

quality. The malfunction indicator may

come on, and the vehicle may not be

drivable.

●

Water can wash the grease from wheel

bearings, causing rusting and prema-

ture failure, and may also enter the

transmission case, reducing the gear

oil’s lubricating qualities.

Adjusting the temperature

Turn temperature control dial clock-
wise to increases the temperature and
turn the dial counterclockwise to
decreases the temperature.
When the indicator on the “SYNC”
switch is illuminated, the temperature
setting for the front passenger’s side
and the rear seats side will match the
setting for the driver’s side.
When the indicator on the “SYNC”
switch is off, turning the “SYNC” switch
on will illuminate the “SYNC” switch

indicator and the temperature setting
for the front passenger’s side and the
rear seats side will become the same as
that for the driver’s side.

When the front passenger’s side tempera-
ture adjustment switch is operated, the
indicator on the “SYNC” switch will turn
off and the temperature setting for the
front passenger’s side will be able to be
adjusted.
When the rear seats side temperature
adjustment switch is operated, the indica-
tor on the “SYNC” switch will turn off and
the temperature setting for the rear seats
