SAFETY

The ASR/DSC systems offer ex-

ceptional safety in normal driving,

but this should not encourage the

driver to take extra risks or drive at

high speed.

The correct functioning of these

systems depends on observation

of the manufacturer's recommen-

dations on:

wheels (tyres and rims),

braking components,

electronic components,

repair and assembly proce-

dures.

After an impact, have these sys-

tems checked by a PEUGEOT

dealer or a qualiﬁ ed workshop.

Deactivation
In exceptional conditions (starting a ve-

hicle which is bogged down, stuck in

snow, on soft ground, ...), it may be ad-

visable to deactivate the ASR and DSC

systems, so that the wheels can move

freely and regain grip.

 Press this button, located in the mid-

dle of the dashboard.

Illumination of the indicator lamp in the

button indicates that the ASR and DSC

systems are deactivated.

Reactivation
These systems are reactivated automat-

ically each time the ignition is switched

back on or from 30 mph (50 km/h).

 Press this button again to reactivate

them manually.

Operating fault

If this warning lamp comes on,

accompanied by an audible

signal and a message in the

screen, this indicates a mal-

function of these systems.

Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer

or a qualiﬁ ed workshop.

TRAJECTORY CONTROL

SYSTEMS

Activation
These systems are activated automati-

cally each time the vehicle is started.

Anti-slip regulation (ASR) and

dynamic stability control (DSC)

They come into operation in the event

of a grip or trajectory problem.

This is indicated by ﬂ ashing of

this warning lamp in the instru-

ment panel.

The anti-slip regulation (also known as

traction control) optimises traction to

prevent skidding of the wheels, by act-

ing on the brakes of the driving wheels

and on the engine.

The electronic stability control acts on

the brake of one or more wheels and

on the engine to keep the vehicle on the

trajectory required by the driver, within

the limits of the laws of physics.

SAFETY

ROLL-OVER BARS

System which protects all of the oc-

cupants restrained by their seat belt

should the vehicle roll over.

The roll-over bars are incorporated in

the back of the rear bench seat. Their

presence is indicated by the words

"Rollover Protection".

Activation

They are triggered simultaneously

should the vehicle roll over.

Operating fault

If this warning lamp comes on on

the instrument panel, accompanied

by an audible signal and a message

in the screen, contact a PEUGEOT

dealer or a qualiﬁ ed workshop to

have the system checked.

In order to ensure the correct opera-

tion and the deployment of the roll-over

bars if roll-over is detected, the follow-

ing conditions must be complied with:

- no accessory which is not recom-

mended by PEUGEOT should

be in contact with or ﬁ xed to the

roll-over bars,

- no object should block or stop the

movement of the roll-over bars,

- the area above the roll-over bars

should be clear of any objects.

Front seat belts

Seat belt not fastened / unfastened

Fastening

 Pull the strap, then insert the tongue

in the buckle.

 Check that the seat belt is fastened

correctly by pulling the strap.

When the ignition is switched

on, this warning lamp comes

on in the seat belt and passen-

ger's front airbag warning lamp

display, if the driver and/or the

front passenger has not fas-

tened their seat belt.

Unfastening
 Press the red button on the buckle.

 Guide the seat belt as it reels in.

1. Front and/or rear seat belts not fas-

tened / unfastened warning lamp.

2. Front left seat belt warning lamp.

3. Front right seat belt warning lamp.

4. Rear right seat belt warning lamp.

5. Rear left seat belt warning lamp.

Seat belt not fastened / unfastened

warning lamps display

The corresponding warning lamp

2 or 3

comes on in red on the seat belt and

passenger's front airbag warning lamps

display if the seat belt is not fastened or

is unfastened.

From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h)

this warning lamp ﬂ ashes for two min-

utes accompanied by an audible signal

of increasing volume. Once these two

minutes have elapsed, this warning

lamp remains on until the driver and/or

the front passenger fastens their seat

belt.

The front seat belts are ﬁ tted with a pre-

tensioning and force limiting system.

This system improves safety in the front

seats in the event of a front or side im-

pact. Depending on the severity of the

impact, the pretensioning system in-

stantly tightens the seat belts against

the body of the occupants.

The pretensioning seat belts are active

when the ignition is on.

The force limiter reduces the pressure of

the seat belt on the chest of the occupant,

so improving their protection.

SAFETY

Rear seat belts

The rear seats are each ﬁ tted with a

three-point inertia reel seat belt with

force limiter.

Fastening
 Remove the strap from the guide

before use.

 Pull the strap, then insert the tongue

in the buckle.

 Check that the seat belt is fastened

correctly by pulling the strap.

Seat belt unfastened warning lamps

display

When the ignition is switched on, with

the engine running or the vehicle mov-

ing at a speed below approximately

12 mph (20 km/h), the corresponding

warning lamps

4 and 5 come on in red

for approximately 30 seconds, if the

seat belt is not fastened.

When the vehicle is moving at a speed

of more than approximately 12 mph

(20 km/h), the corresponding warn-

ing lamp

4 or 5 comes on in red, ac-

companied by an audible signal and a

message on the multifunction screen, if

a rear passenger has unfastened their

seat belt.

Unfastening
 Press the red button on the buckle.

 Guide the seat belt as it reels in.

Seat belt unfastened warning
This warning lamp comes on in the seat

belt and passenger's front airbag warn-

ing lamps display, when one or more

rear passengers unfasten their seat

belt.

In the "cabriolet" conﬁ guration, if

the rear seats are not occupied,

slide the straps in the guides

A to

prevent ﬂ uttering of the rear seat

belts (leather seats only).

From approximately 12 mph

(20 km/h), this warning lamp

ﬂ ashes for two minutes ac-

companied by an audible sig-

nal of increasing volume. Once these

two minutes have elapsed, this warning

lamp remains on until the one or more

rear passengers fasten their seat belt.

SAFETY

The driver must ensure that passen-

gers use the seat belts correctly and

that they are all restrained securely

before setting off.

Wherever you are seated in the ve-

hicle, always fasten your seat belt,

even for short journeys.

Do not interchange the seat belt buck-

les as they will not fulﬁ l their role fully.

The seat belts are ﬁ tted with an inertia

reel permitting automatic adjustment

of the length of the strap to your size.

The seat belt is stowed automatically

when not in use.

Before and after use, ensure that the

seat belt is reeled in correctly.

The lower part of the strap must be

positioned as low as possible on the

pelvis.

The upper part must be positioned in

the hollow of the shoulder.

The inertia reels are ﬁ tted with an au-

tomatic locking device which comes

into operation in the event of a collision,

emergency braking or if the vehicle rolls

over. You can release the device by

pulling ﬁ rmly on the strap and releasing

it so that it reels in slightly.

In order to be effective, a seat belt

must:

- be tightened as close to the body

as possible,

- be pulled in front of you with a

smooth movement, checking that

it does not twist,

- be used to restrain only one person,

- not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,

- not be converted or modiﬁ ed to

avoid affecting its performance.

In accordance with current safety

regulations, for all repairs on your

vehicle, go to a qualiﬁ ed workshop

with the skills and equipment needed,

which a PEUGEOT dealer is able to

provide.

Have your seat belts checked regu-

larly by a PEUGEOT dealer or a

qualiﬁ ed workshop, particularly if the

straps show signs of damage.

Clean the seat belt straps with soapy

water or a textile cleaning product,

sold by PEUGEOT dealers.

After folding or moving a seat or rear

bench seat, ensure that the seat belt

is positioned and reeled in correctly.

Recommendations for children
Use a suitable child seat if the pas-

senger is less than 12 years old or

shorter than one and a half metres.

Never use the same seat belt to se-

cure more than one person.

Never allow a child to travel on your

lap.

In the event of an impact

Depending on the nature and serious-

ness of the impact , the pretensioning

device may be deployed before and in-

dependently of the airbags. Deployment

of the pretensioners is accompanied by

a slight discharge of harmless smoke

and a noise, due to the activation of the

pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated in the

system.

In all cases, the airbag warning lamp

comes on.

Following an impact, have the seat

belts system checked, and if neces-

sary replaced, by a PEUGEOT dealer

or a qualiﬁ ed workshop.

AIRBAGS

The airbags have been designed to

maximise the safety of the occupants in

the event of violent collisions. They sup-

plement the action of the force-limiting

seat belts.

In this case, the electronic detectors

record and analyse the front and side

impacts suffered in the impact detection

zones:

in the event of a serious impact,

the airbags are deployed instanta-

neously and contribute towards pro-

tecting the occupants of the vehicle;

immediately after the impact, the

airbags deﬂ ate rapidly so that they

do not hinder the visibility of the oc-

cupants or their possible exit from

the vehicle,

- in the event of a minor impact or

rear impact and in certain roll-over

conditions, the airbags will not be

deployed; the seat belt alone con-

tributes towards providing your pro-

tection in these situations.

The deployment of one or more

airbags is accompanied by a slight

discharge of smoke and a noise,

due to the activation of the pyro-

technic cartridge incorporated in

the system.

This smoke is not harmful, but sen-

sitive individuals may experience

some irritation.

The noise of the detonation may

result in a slight loss of hearing for

a short time.

Front airbags

Deployment
The airbags are deployed, except the pas-

senger's front airbag it it has been deacti-

vated, in the event of a serious front impact

to all or part of the front impact zone

A , in

the longitudinal centreline of the vehicle on

a horizontal plane and directed from the

front to the rear of the vehicle.

The front airbag inﬂ ates between the tho-

rax and head of the front occupant of the

vehicle and the steering wheel, driver's

side, and the dashboard, passenger's side

to cushion their forward movement.

Impact detection zones

A. Front impact zone.

B. Side impact zone.

The airbags do not operate when

the ignition is off.

This equipment only operates once.

If a second impact occurs (during

the same or a subsequent acci-

dent), the airbag will not operate.

System which protects the driver and

front passenger in the event of a seri-

ous front impact in order to limit the risk

of injury to the head and thorax.

The driver's airbag is ﬁ tted in the centre

of the steering wheel; the front passen-

ger's airbag is ﬁ tted in the dashboard

above the glove box.

Operating fault

If this warning lamp comes on

or ﬂ ash, accompanied by an

audible warning and a mes-

sage in the screen, contact a

PEUGEOT dealer or a qualiﬁ ed work-

shop to have the system checked. The

airbags may no longer be deployed in

the event of a serious impact.

Reactivation
When you remove the child seat, with

the ignition off, turn the control switch

to the

"ON" position to reactivate the

airbag and so assure the safety of your

front passenger in the event of an im-

pact.

On switching the ignition on,

this warning lamp comes on in

the seat belt and passenger's

front airbag warning lamps dis-

play for approximately one minute, so

as to signal the activation of the pas-

senger's front airbag.

To assure the safety of your child,

the passenger's front airbag must

be deactivated when you install a

"rearward facing" child seat on the

front passenger seat.

Otherwise, the child would risk be-

ing seriously injured or killed if the

airbag were deployed.

On switching on the ignition this

warning lamp comes on in the

seat belt and passenger's front

airbag warning lamps display. It

stays on until the airbag is re-

activated.

Deactivation
Only the passenger's front airbag can

be deactivated.



With the ignition off , insert the key

in the passenger airbag deactivation

switch.

 Turn it to the

"OFF" position.

 Then, remove the key keeping the

switch in the new position.

Lateral airbags

System which protects the driver and

front passenger in the event of a seri-

ous side impact in order to limit the risk

of injury to the pelvis, chest and head.

The lateral airbags are ﬁ tted on the door

side:

- in the front seat back frame (chest-

pelvis airbag),

in the front head restraint (head airbag).

Deployment

The lateral airbags are deployed uni-

laterally in the event of a serious side

impact applied to all or part of the side

impact zone

B , perpendicular to the lon-

gitudinal centreline of the vehicle on a

horizontal plane and directed from the

outside towards the inside of the vehicle.

The lateral airbags inﬂ ate between the

front occupant of the vehicle and the

corresponding door trim panel.

If this warning lamp in the instru-

ment panel comes on, accompa-

nied by an audible signal and a

message in the screen, contact

a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualiﬁ ed work-

shop to have the system checked. The

airbags may no longer be deployed in the

event of a serious impact.

In the event of a light impact or

bump to the side of the vehicle of

if the vehicle rolls over, the airbags

may not be deployed.

In the event of a rear or front colli-

sion, the airbags are not deployed.

For the airbags to be fully

effective, observe the following

safety rules:
Sit in a normal upright position.

Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt.

Do not leave anything between the

occupants and the airbags (a child,

pet, object...). This could hamper the

operation of the airbags or injure the

occupants.

After an accident or if the vehicle has

been stolen or broken into, have the

airbag systems checked.

All work on the airbag system must be

carried out by a PEUGEOT dealer or

a qualiﬁ ed workshop.

Even if all of the precautions mentioned

are observed, a risk of injury or of minor

burns to the head, chest or arms when

an airbag is deployed cannot be ruled

out. The bag inﬂ ates almost instantly

(within a few milliseconds) then deﬂ ates

within the same time discharging the

hot gas via openings provided for this

purpose.

Front airbags
Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resting your hands on

the centre part of the wheel.

Passengers must not place their feet on the dashboard.

If possible, do not smoke as deployment of the airbags can cause burns or the

risk of injury from a cigarette or pipe.

Never remove or pierce the steering wheel or hit it violently.

Lateral airbags
Fit only approved covers on the seats, compatible with deployment of the lateral

airbags. For information on the range of seat covers suitable for your vehicle,

contact a PEUGEOT dealer (see "Practical information - Accessories").

Do not ﬁ x or attach anything to the seat backs. This could cause injury to the

chest or arms if the lateral airbag is deployed.

Do not ﬁ x or attach anything to the front head restraints (articles of clothing...).

This could cause injury to the head if the lateral airbag is deployed.

Do not sit with the upper part of the body any nearer to the door than necessary.

GENERAL POINTS RELATING

TO CHILD SEATS

Although one of PEUGEOT main cri-

teria when designing your vehicle, the

safety of your children also depends on

you.

For maximum safety, please observe

the following recommendations:

in accordance with European regu-

lations,

all children under the age

of 12 or less than one and a half

metres tall must travel in ap-

proved child seats suited to their

weight , on seats ﬁ tted with a seat

belt or ISOFIX mountings * ,

statistically, the safest seats in

your vehicle for carrying children

are the rear seats,

a child weighing less than 9 kg

must travel in the "rearward fac-

ing" position both in the front and

in the rear.

* The rules for carrying children are

speciﬁ c to each country. Refer to the

legislation in force in your country.

When a "rearward-facing" child seat is

installed on the

front passenger seat ,

adjust the seat to the intermediate lon-

gitudinal and highest position, with the

backrest straightened.

The passenger airbag must be deacti-

vated. Otherwise,

the child would risk

being seriously injured or killed if the

airbag were to inﬂ ate .

When a "forward-facing" child seat is

installed on the

front passenger seat ,

adjust the vehicle's seat to the interme-

diate longitudinal and highest position

with seat backrest straightened and

leave the passenger's airbag activated.

* Refer to the current legislation in your

country before installing a child seat

on this seat.

Ensure that the seat belt is correct-

ly tensioned.

For child seats with a support leg,

ensure that the support leg is in

stable contact with the ﬂ oor. If nec-

essary, adjust the passenger seat.

LOCATIONS FOR CHILD SEATS SECURED USING THE SEAT BELT

In accordance with European regulations, this table indicates the options for the installation of child seats secured using the

seat belt and universally approved (a) in relation to the weight of the child and the seat in the vehicle.

(a) Universal child seat: child seat which can be installed in all vehicles using the seat belt.

(b) Group 0: from birth to 10 kg. Infant car seats and "car" cots cannot be installed on the front passenger seat.

(d) To install a child seat, move the front seat forward, then put the seat back in the upright position to leave enough space for

the child seat and the child's legs. The front seat can be moved further forward than the intermediate longitudinal position.

U : seat suitable for the installation of a child seat secured using the seat belt and universally approved "rearward facing" and/

or "forward facing".

U(R1) : same as to U , with the vehicle's seat adjusted to its middle longitudinal position.

latest ISOFIX regulations .

The seats represented below are ﬁ tted

with these regulation ISOFIX mountings:

These are two rings

A for each seat, lo-

cated between the seat back and seat

cushion of the vehicle's seat, indicated

by a label.

The incorrect installation of a child

seat in a vehicle compromises the

protection of the child in the event

of a collision.

Observe in full the ﬁ tting instruc-

tions in the installation handbook

provided with the child seat.

For installing ISOFIX child seats

in your vehicle, refer to the table

showing the locations for ﬁ tting

ISOFIX child seats.

These rings are located behind covers.

For access to them:

 insert the ignition key in the cut-out

in the cover,

 pull it forwards to unclip it and then

fold it down.

This ISOFIX mounting system provides

reliable, safe and fast ﬁ tting of the child

seat in your vehicle.
