INTERLOCKING SYSTEM
1. In order to ensure that the signalling system never provides unsafe signals and the
points are not set for more than one train that might end up proceeding on to the same section of
track and hence suffering a collision, various schemes have been developed to coordinate the
settings of the points and the signals within the region controlled by a signal box or signal cabin.
2.The most prevalent systems today are still mechanical interlocking schemes that
coordinate the positions of the levers controlling the points with the signals governing that
section of track and connected branches, loops, or sidings.
For instance, in one common scheme, a key that allows setting the points for a route has
to be obtained from the block instrument, and as long as the key is removed the instrument
cannot be set to provide Line Clear for a conflicting route. The wires that operate signals, and the
rods that control points, are all interconnected in the lever frames at the signal cabins so that they
are literally 'interlocked' - the position of one lever or key physically obstructs the movements
of other levers and keys which control points or signals that can be set in conflicting ways.

MANCE
Starting January 1, we will introduce the following modification in our company policy with
regard to annual leave for outstanding performance.
The eligible employees will have additional five (5) days of annual leave credited on January
15. The bonus leave will be accounted for separately and will remain available until used.
Notwithstanding any other limitation of the total number of days of annual leave that may be
carried forward we will have a meeting on December 15 at 10.00 a.m. to discuss the results of the
2006 performance evaluation and approve the final list of employees eligible for the bonus. The

However, I thought it would be helpful if I summarized the rules for ease of reference.
1. DOCUMENT FORMATS
All documents should be presented in the full-blocked format using open punctuation. Specimen
letters, fax messages, memoranda and other documents are included in the booklet. Theses
examples should guide you in our requirements.
2. SIGNATURE BLOCK (LETTERS)
In outgoing letters it is usual practice to display the sender’s name in capitals and the title directly
underneath case with initial capitals.
3. NUMBERED ITEMS
In reports and other documents it is often necessary to number items. In such cases the numbers
should be displayed alone with to full stops or brackets.

(LTA) has awarded three major contracts,
totaling more than S$1bn, covering the supply of signalling, communications systems and rolling
stock for the 40km Downtown Line automated metro (DTL), Phase I of which is now under
construction.
2. Linking the northwestern and eastern parts of the island to the Central Business
District and Marina Bay, the DTL is a key element in LTA’s 2020 Masterplan, which envisages
doubling the island’s metro network from 138km to 278 km over the next 12 years. This is
intended to provide a metro station within 5 min walk or 400m from point in the central area.
3. Contracts have already been awarded for civil works on the first sections of the DTL,
which is being built in three stages. Phase I is scheduled to open by 2013, Phase II by 2015 and
Phase III in 2016. The fully-underground line is expected to carry around 500 000 passengers per
day when it is complete.
4. Signalling and train control equipment is to be supplied by Westing-house Brake &
Signal Holdings Ltd, part of Invensys Rail Group. This S$228m contract includes automatic train
operation, and the provision of platform screen doors. The train control package will incorporate
Sirius equipment, Westrace electronic interlockings and a Systematic automatic train supervision
system.
Singapore Technologies Engineering is to provide the DTL’s communication system
linking trains, stations and depots with the operations control center.
