TION/LIGHT KEY SWITCH AND FORK LOCK

Disconnect connectors and remove from their retaining
devices, if present:

Twist grip sensor jumper harness (7).

Main to interconnect harness (1).

conduit from J-clamp.

Remove ET sensor connector [90].

release brake lines from

clips in wire trough.

Cut cable straps securing harnesses to both upper frame
rails.

Remove purge solenoid connector [95], if equipped.

10. Disconnect ECM connector [78]

11. Remove ignition coil connector [83].

NOTE

Take note of harness ground ring terminal orientation when
removing.

12. Remove main harness ground ring terminals from left and

right frame ground studs located ahead of battery tray.

13. Pry anchor pins at rear of wire trough from holes in frame

backbone.

14. Disconnect siren, if equipped, and remove siren from left

side caddy.

15. Remove left side electrical caddy from battery tray. See

FLHR/C Only:

Pull anchor on ignition switch jumper harness con-
nector [222], 4-place Packard, from hole in left caddy.
Disconnect connector.

Disconnect instrument console connector [20], 16-
place Molex, inboard of left upper frame tube. Remove
instrument console from motorcycle.

FLHX, FLTRX:

Cut cable straps to release radio antenna cable from
left fender mount and saddlebag mounting bracket.

Disconnect radio antenna cable connector from
antenna.

Draw radio antenna cable forward and out through
opening at rear of left side caddy.

18.

Models with Tour-Pak:

Remove rubber mat or map pocket and molded liner
from Tour-Pak.

Disconnect radio antenna cable connector. Release
cable from two adhesive clips at bottom of Tour-Pak.

Disconnect Tour-Pak lights connector [12] and power
outlet connector [258] as equipped.

Disconnect rear audio harness if equipped. See

Pull Tour-Pak harness and radio antenna cable out
of Tour-Pak.

Cut cable strap to release harnesses from luggage
rack rail. Draw Tour-Pak and audio harnesses out
through opening at rear of left side caddy.

19. Disconnect oxygen sensor connectors and remove from

anchors. Remove and disconnect TSM/HFSM module.

20.

ABS Equipped Only:

Disconnect ABS module connector [166].

Disconnect rear wheel speed sensor connector [168].

Feed conduit and connectors into battery tray.

21. Remove main power cable ring terminal from starter

solenoid post. Draw cable out through opening at rear of
left side caddy.

22. Remove starter and disconnect VSS connector. See

23. Remove connectors from neutral switch.

24. Pull VSS, neutral switch, and starter solenoid connectors

through opening at front of battery tray and out through
opening at rear of left side caddy.

25. Disconnect voltage regulator. See

28. Disconnect oil pressure switch/sender at front right side

of crankcase.

29. Free main harness conduit clamp from front engine

mounting bracket.

30. Free main harness from two conduit clips anchored to

lower-right frame tube.

31. Disconnect rear brake light switch.

32. Cut cable straps to release main harness from middle

frame downtube, near rear mount bracket and brake light
switch bracket

33. Remove connector [179] from active exhaust valve actu-

ator or from mock pin housing on right side of battery tray,
as equipped.

34. Pull rear brake light switch, oil pressure, CKP sensor, jiffy

stand interlock sensor, voltage regulator, ABS (if equipped)
and oxygen sensor harness and connectors up through
opening at front of battery tray.

35. While pulling left side caddy away from motorcycle, feed

wire trough out through opening between frame down-
tubes.

INSTALLATION: ALL MODELS (PART 1)

Feed front end of wire trough in through opening between
left frame downtubes, and then pull up and out through
opening at top of battery tray. Lay wire trough on top of
frame backbone.

Push anchor pins at rear of wire trough into holes in frame
backbone.

Route branch terminating in the active exhaust valve
actuator,

rear

brake

light

switch,

oil

pressure

switch/sender, CKP sensor, jiffy stand interlock sensor,
voltage regulator, TSM/HFSM and O2 sensor connectors
to front of motorcycle following inboard side of lower frame
tube.

Feed branch terminating in the VSS, neutral switch, rear
O2 sensor and starter solenoid connectors through
opening at rear of left side caddy, and down through
opening at front of battery tray to top of transmission.

Locate branch terminating in oxygen sensor, TSM/HFSM,
ABS module (if equipped) and rear wheel speed sensor
connectors. Feed harness rearward.

Feed branch terminating in the Tour-Pak lights and radio
antenna cable connectors through opening at rear of left
side caddy and up through opening between frame
crossmember and front of rear fender. Lay harness along
left side of rear fender.

Models with Tour-Pak:

Route rear audio harness and CB antenna cable up
through opening at top of battery tray and lay along
right side of rear fender.

Route branch terminating in the rear headset recept-
acle and rear speaker/passenger controls connector
up through opening at top of battery tray and lay along
left side of rear fender.

Feed main power cable ring terminal, B+, accessory, rear
fender lights, purge solenoid and ignition coil connectors
inboard and install left side electrical caddy. See

7.8 ELECTRICAL CADDIES

Route main power cable ring terminal down to top of
transmission.

10. Tuck B+ and accessory connectors and conduit into corner

at front of battery tray. Route rear fender lights connector
under frame crossmember at rear of battery tray and
secure to top of fender.

11. Connect VSS connector and neutral switch.

12. Install starter. See

13. Install purge solenoid connector [95] if equipped.

14. Install ignition coil connector [83].

15. Connect rear brake light switch. Install

new

cable straps

to secure rear brake light switch wires to harness.

NOTE

Replace conduit clips if damaged, deteriorated or missing. With
the slotted side up, push hole in conduit clip over T-stud to
install.

16. Route main harness conduit inboard of front engine

mounting bracket. See

for harness retention

points. Secure main harness to mid and lower frame using

new

cable ties.

17. Connect and install voltage regulator. See

REGULATOR

18. Connect CKP sensor connector [79]. Push anchor on

connector into hole in front caddy.

19. Connect jiffy stand interlock sensor connector [133] and

secure to T-stud on front caddy.

20. Install oil pressure switch/sender connector.

21. Install connector [179] to the active exhaust valve actuator

or to mock pin housing on right side of battery tray, as
equipped.

ABS Equipped Only:

Connect ABS module connector

[166] and rear wheel speed sensor connector [168].
Secure rear wheel speed sensor connector to hole in right
side caddy.

23. Connect and install TSM/HFSM.

. Connect oxygen sensor front (grey)

and rear (black) connectors. Secure connectors to
TSM/HFSM bracket. Secure wires to rear conduit clip (3).

Models with Tour-Pak:

Route Tour-Pak lights harness and radio antenna
cable into left side of Tour-Pak and install grommet
with the larger OD facing inside.

Connect Tour-Pak lights connector, power outlet
connector (if equipped), and radio antenna cable
connector. Capture antenna cable in two adhesive
clips at bottom of Tour-Pak.

Connect audio harness and CB antenna cable if
equipped. See

MODELS

Secure harnesses and antenna cables to luggage
rack rail and rear frame using

new

cable straps.

Install rubber mat or molded liner and map pocket as
equipped.

Models with under-fender harness routing:

Route rear

fender lights connector [7] up between frame crossmember
and rear fender. Connect and attach to anchor on rear
fender.

FLHR/C Only:

Lay a clean shop towel on forward part of rear fender.
Lay console upside down on shop towel.

Connect instrument console connector [20].

Connect ignition switch jumper harness connector
[222]. Secure connector in hole in left side of battery
tray.

29. Connect ECM connector [78].

30. Install two main harness ground ring terminals onto left

frame ground stud and tighten nut to 50-90

in-lbs

(5.7-

10.2 Nm).

31. Route chassis ground cable forward along left side of wire

trough and install ring terminal on right frame ground stud.
Install flange nut and tighten to 50-90

in-lbs

(5.7-10.2

Route left side speaker, fuel gauge, air temperature gauge
(if equipped), cigarette lighter, left front turn signal/auxiliary
lamp, and left handlebar switch connectors behind left
fairing bracket to area of left support brace.

Route right side speaker, voltmeter gauge, oil pressure
gauge (if equipped), right front turn signal/auxiliary lamp,
and right handlebar switch connectors behind right fairing
bracket to area of right support brace.

Secure interconnect harness to speedometer bracket.

Installation

NOTE

To avoid chafing wires of interconnect harness, verify that trim
strips are installed on hooks of radio bracket.

Center interconnect harness above and inboard of hooks
on radio bracket end terminating in terminals of cigarette
lighter on the left side of motorcycle. Install radio antenna
cable connector if removed.

2.40 INSTRUMENT NACELLE: FRAME MOUNTED
FAIRING MODELS

. Install connectors:

Cigarette lighter (16) with the orange/white wire ter-
minal to the center contact and black wire terminal to
the shell contact.

Left speaker (15).

Fuel gauge (14) and lamp.

Air temperature gauge (13) and lamp.

Right speaker(10).

Voltmeter gauge (11) and lamp.

Oil pressure gauge (12) and lamp.

Route branch of interconnect harness terminating in
speedometer, tachometer, etc. through tunnel of fairing
bracket and into instrument nacelle.

Proceed as follows:

Install harness ground terminal onto spade contact
at top of upper fork bracket (left side).

conduit to luggage rack rail.

Open Tour-Pak and remove rubber mat or map pocket
and molded liner as equipped.

adhesive clips (2) at bottom of Tour-Pak.

11. Disconnect Tour-Pak lights connector (3) and power outlet

connector (if equipped).

Installation

radio antenna cable

connector to radio.

Route free end of radio antenna cable rearward along left
side of steering head, rearward through left side of wire
trough, then along inboard side of left upper frame tube.
Continue rearward following luggage rack rail to front of
Tour-Pak.

Capture radio antenna cable and main harness conduit in
P-clamp. Secure P-clamp to steering head with rivet.

Loosely install two

new

cable straps to secure radio

antenna cable, main harness and rear audio harness (if
equipped) to left upper frame tube and one to luggage
rack rail.

Feed Tour-Pak lights and radio antenna cable connectors
through hole at front of Tour-Pak. Install grommet with the
larger OD inside.

and power outlet connector if equipped.

Connect radio antenna cable connector to antenna base.
Capture cable in two adhesive clips (2) at bottom of Tour-
Pak.

Tighten three cable straps securing radio antenna cable
and main harness to left upper frame tube and luggage
rack rail. Cut excess cable strap material.

Install rubber mat or molded liner and map pocket in Tour-
Pak.

10. Install cover over wire trough. Verify that all latches are

fully engaged.

Route free end of radio antenna cable rear-

ward along left side of steering head.

FLTRX:

Route free end of radio antenna cable into

tunnel of fairing bracket pulling it out through opening
on left side of bracket and then continuing rearward
along steering head.

Capture radio antenna cable and main harness in P-clamp
and secure to steering head with rivet.

Route radio antenna cable rearward through left side of
wire trough, then along inboard side of left upper frame
tube to area of antenna.
