3. Index-mark the coupling shaft (4817) and the extension housing.

4. Remove the four bolts.

CAUTION: The driveshaft rear flange fits tightly on the rear axle pinion flange 

pilot. Never hammer on the driveshaft or any of its components to 
disconnect the rear flange from the pinion flange. Pry only in the area 
shown, with a suitable tool, to disconnect the rear flange from the 
pinion flange.

5. Using a suitable tool as shown, disconnect the driveshaft rear flange from the rear axle pinion flange.  

6. Remove the driveshaft. 

1. Remove the bolts.  

2. Lower the driveshaft, and slide the driveshaft slip yoke (4841) rearward off of the output shaft.

CAUTION: If new bolts to retain the driveshaft to the axle are not available, coat 

the threads of the original bolts with Threadlock and Sealer E0AZ-
19554-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G351-A5.

CAUTION: The driveshaft rear flange fits tightly on the rear axle pinion flange 

pilot. To make sure that the driveshaft rear flange seats squarely on 
the rear axle pinion flange, tighten the bolts evenly in a cross pattern 
as shown.
