53. Install the upper instrument panel steering column cover.

54. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND 

CABLES - F150 PICKUP . 

55. With all the restraint system diagnostic tools removed, prove out the Supplemental Restraint System 

(SRS). For additional information, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS - F150 PICKUP .  

56. Check the active restraints system for correct operation. For additional information, refer to SAFETY 

BELT SYSTEM - F150 PICKUP .  

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Special Tool(s) 

WARNING:

The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service 
only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could 
result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.

Removal & Installation 

1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.  

2. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301) and wait at least one minute to allow the depletion of the 

restraint system backup power supply. 

3. Deactivate the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). For additional information, refer to 

SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION . 

4. Remove the driver air bag. For additional information, refer to DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE .  

5. Remove the steering wheel bolt.
