FRONT OUTPUT SHAFT SEAL REPLACEMENT

1. Fill the transfer case to the bottom of the fill plug hole with DEXRON® 

VI GM P/N 88861003 (Canadian P/N 88861004).  

2. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004, (Canadian P/N 10953480), or 

equivalent, to the plug threads.  

 
Tip: When performing the following procedure, use only hand tools to remove 
and install the fill plug. 

Tighten: 18 N.m (13 lb ft)

Preliminary Procedures 

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .  

2. Remove the transfer case shield, if equipped. Refer to Transfer Case Shield 

Replacement .  

3. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement .

Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal 

Procedure 

1. Remove the seal using a flat-bladed tool.  

2. Install the seal using J 8092 and J 43484 .

TRANSFER CASE REAR EXTENSION BUSHING REPLACEMENT

Preliminary Procedure:  
Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or 
Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .

Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal 

Procedure 

1. Remove the seal using a flat-bladed tool.  

2. Install the seal with the notch at the top and the weep hole at the bottom.  

 
Tip: Use the appropriate seal installer depending on application.
