8. Install the transfer case adapter nuts. 

Tighten: Tighten the nuts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft). 

9. Install the transmission mount.

10. Position the crossmember.  

11. Install the crossmember bolts. 

NOTE:

Refer to Fastener Notice .

IMPORTANT: Ensure that the gasket is flush to the transmission prior to 

installing the nuts.

Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 70 N.m (52 lb ft).

12. Install the transmission mount nuts and bolts.

Tighten: Tighten the nuts and bolts to 40 N.m (30 lb ft). 

13. Remove the jack stand from the transmission.  

14. Install the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement .  

15. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-

Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .  

16. Fill the transfer case with fluid.  

17. Install the transfer case shield, if equipped. Refer to Transfer Case Shield Replacement.  

18. Lower the vehicle.

INPUT SHAFT SEAL REPLACEMENT 

Tools Required 

J 36825 Output Shaft Oil Seal Remover  

J 23907 Slide Hammer with Bearing Adapter  

J 42738 Front Output Shaft Seal Installer. See Special Tools.  

Removal Procedure 

(2WD) or Transmission Mount Replacement (4WD) for the 4L60-E/4L65-
E/4L70-E automatic transmission, or Transmission Mount Replacement (2WD) or 
Transmission Mount Replacement (4WD) for the 6L50/6L80/6L90 automatic 
transmission.

Tighten: 50 N.m (37 lb ft) 

NOTE:

Refer to Fastener Notice .

Transfer Case Adapter Seal 
Tip: Always use a new seal for the adapter. Do not use any type of sealant or 
adhesive in place of or with the seal.
