performs a supporting function over a long period of time, there is not movement between 
the gear and the supporting shaft, and the bearing contact areas may show signs of fretting 
corrosion. 

27. Replace any gears showing brinelling.

28. Inspect the mainshaft bearing surfaces for the following conditions: 

Wear  

Lack of lubricant  

Debris embedded in the oil grooves  

29. Inspect the main shaft splines for wear or damage.  

30. Replace the main shaft if any of the above conditions are found.

BEARINGS AND SPACERS CLEANING AND INSPECTION

1. Clean all bearing components in a suitable solvent and air dry.  

2. Inspect the bearings and journals for roughness and unusual wear or damage.  

NOTE:

Do not allow the bearings to spin. Turn them slowly by hand. 
Spinning the bearings may damage the race and the rollers.

3. Inspect the main shaft bearing journals for wear.  

4. Inspect the main shaft speed gear bearings for wear.  

5. Inspect the main drive gear pilot bearing rollers for wear.  

6. Replace components which show signs of excessive wear.  

7. Do not file surfaces which have been hardened and precision ground.  

8. Replace worn or damaged bearings.  

9. Replace mated bearing components when only one part is damaged.

1. Install the 4 clutch housing screws.

2. Install the 2 interior housing nuts.
